It has been a tough opening series for the Atlanta Braves and the news isn’t getting any better. Reliever Chris Martin left Sunday’s game during the eighth inning with an apparent injury.
Martin retired Andrew McCutchen to begin the inning but then allowed three straight singles to Rhys Hoskins, Bryce Harper and Alec Bohm. Bohm’s liner to center scored Hoskins to give Philadelphia a 2-1 lead. Martin then got Didi Gregorius to ground out to Freeman at first for the second out. His first two pitches to Jean Segura were wide and he appeared to be having some sort of discomfort. After a visit by Brian Snitker and the team trainer, the decision was made to remove Martin from the game.

Grant Dayton replaced Martin. The Braves elected to walk Segura intentionally and Dayton got pinch hitter Brad Miller to line out to Freeman at first for the final out of the inning.
The Braves can ill-afford to lose Martin who is a key piece of the team’s bullpen. We will follow up with additional details as soon as they are available.
