The Atlanta Braves and Arizona Diamondbacks will wrap up a three-game series with a doubleheader Sunday after storms rolling through the Atlanta area forced the postponement of Saturday night’s game.
Both games will be seven innings and will be played in a traditional format where the second game will follow about 40 minutes after the completion of the first game.
Bryse Wilson will get the start in Game 1 for Atlanta. Wilson made his season debut on Sunday Night Baseball last week against the Cubs allowing seven hits and two earned runs over five innings. He struck out one and walked one.
The Diamondbacks will counter with right-hander Zac Gallen who will be making his third start of the season. Gallen allowed four hits, four walks and three runs in 5 2/3 innings against the Reds earlier this week. He has allowed seven hits and six walks in 9 2/3 innings spanning his first two starts this season.
The Braves will go with Drew Smyly, who was activated from the injured list Saturday, in Game 2. Smyly experienced some forearm discomfort following his last start on April 11. Atlanta elected to play it safe and have him skip a start while placing him on the injured list. Smyly has allowed nine hits and seven earned runs over 11 innings in two starts this season.
Arizona will go with veteran lefty Madison Bumgarner opposite Smyly in Game 2. Bumgarner is coming off of his best start of the season but his overall numbers are still ugly. He allowed just two hits and one run over five innings last time out against Cincinnati. However, he will carry a 8.68 ERA and a 5.83 FIP into Sunday’s start.
Sunday’s doubleheader will get underway at 1:20 p.m. ET and can be seen on Bally Sports South.
