After losing a tough game in extra innings to the Marlins yesterday thanks to some missed opportunities, the Braves are set to try again this evening with Kyle Wright making his return to the mound to take on Sixto Sanchez and the Marlins.
Wright has all of the tools to succeed, but it is fair to say that his time in the major leagues has been a mixed bag as he has posted a career ERA north of seven in 15 appearances. Given the Braves’ struggles in their rotation and now with the loss of Max Fried for at least one start, the team could REALLY use a quality start from Wright against the suddenly not terrible Marlins.
The Braves have some things going for them. While manager Brian Snitker’s usage of the bullpen as been, ahem, inconsistent of late...the relievers have been a strength of the team. It certainly doesn’t hurt that the offense has also been great with Ronald Acuna Jr. looking like the five tool monster we all thought he could be and recent torrid stretches from Freddie Freeman, Marcell Ozuna (other than yesterday), and Austin Riley.
One piece that the team really needs to get going is Nick Markakis who is mired in a pretty brutal slump as he has failed to record a hit in his last six games.
For the Marlins, they have their own hot shot prospect taking the mound as Sixto Sanchez will try to shut the Braves down. Sixto was acquired by the Marlins in the trade that sent JT Realmuto to the Phillies and so far, he has been as good as advertised.
