With the Braves clinching the division earlier in the week, a lot of the drama was taken out of the team’s final series of the regular season against the Red Sox. The team even took the step to give Freddie Freeman a much deserved day off. However, there was still a baseball game to play.
Unfortunately, it just wasn’t the Braves’ night for the most part. They had one of their nights where they were terrible with runners in scoring position, Mark Melancon did not look great in the 9th, and Chris Martin had a rare off night in relief. However, Freddie Freeman came into the game to restore order as he delivered a walk-off two-run homer to give the Braves an 8-7 win in 11 innings.
The other big positive from the evening, other than the ball that Ronald Acuna Jr. launched into orbit to lead off the game, was the work that Kyle Wright did in his final start of the regular season. Wright was excellent as he pitched 6.2 innings with four strikeouts and three walks....the three walks came all in his last inning of work when it was clear he was worn out. Overall, though, a strong and efficient outing from him.
