When you are having an MVP campaign, you deserve a bit of rest once in a while. With the division title locked up and good odds to secure the second position in the NL Playoff seeding this weekend, the Braves decided Freddie Freeman deserved a day off.
In most lineups, that likely would make their overall level of intimidation significantly lower at first glance. However, not all lineups can replace an MVP candidate in the second spot in the lineup with the previous year’s leader in hits. This is just another reminder of the depth and talent of the Braves offense. Even without Freeman and Travis d’Arnaud, this lineup still is easily above average compared to others in baseball. Hopefully, they will get the bats booming again early tonight.

Neither Xander Bogaerts or Rafael Devers will get the start for the Red Sox tonight. It has been a year of struggles for Boston, though that was expected with plenty of change occurring over the past 12 months. However, there are still players to be cautious with, as Alex Verdugo and J.D. Martinez can both be sources of instant offense at any time. Verdugo gave the Braves staff fits in Boston earlier this year, so keeping him quiet would be a good development to earn an Atlanta win.
