This Day in Braves History: September 24
1949 - Bob Elliott homers in three straight at-bats to help the Braves down the Giants 6-4.
1965 - Tony Cloninger throws a four-hitter as the Braves defeat the Giants at Candlestick Park.
1968 - Gil Hodges suffers a heart attack during a game between the Mets and Braves. He will be hospitalized with Rube Walker taking over for the rest of the season. Tommie Aaron and Hank Aaron combine for five hits and pull off a double steal in a 7-3 win.
1980 - The Braves beat the Astros 4-2 in front of 24,897 fans at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium pushing the Braves over the one million attendance mark. The other 11 National League teams have already reached the million mark making this the first season ever in which all of the teams in one league have done so.
1983 - Dale Murphy walks, steals second and scores the winning run on a single by Rafael Ramirez in a 3-2 win over the Dodgers. Murphy’s stolen base gives him 30 for the season making him the sixth player ever to hit 30 home runs and steal 30 bases in the same season.
2004 - Atlanta’s streak of consecutive division titles extends to 13 with the Braves clinching the NL East with an 8-7 win over the Marlins.
One year ago - Playing out the string, the Braves fall to the Royals 9-6. Ozzie Albies goes 3-for-4 with a double and a homer but Julio Teheran gets tagged for six hits and six runs in just 2 1/3 innings.
Ten years ago - Tim Hudson allows seven hits and six runs as the Braves fall to the Nationals 8-3. Adam Dunn homers twice for the Nationals.
Twenty years ago - Chipper Jones and Rafael Furcal finish with three hits each as the Braves hammer the Expos 14-5. Andy Ashby allows five runs over eight innings for Atlanta.
