The Atlanta Braves moved a step closer to getting their full compliment of players back Tuesday when both Ronald Acuña Jr. and Nick Markakis were activated from the injured list. Second baseman Ozzie Albies has been dealing with a wrist injury but also appears to be nearing a return. Albies took batting practice from both sides of the plate on Tuesday. They will continue to evaluate him over the coming days but could be ready to rejoin the club soon.

As was mentioned above, the Braves activated both Acuña and Markakis from the injured list. They also selected the contract of top pitching prospect Ian Anderson who was slated to make his major league debut Tuesday night before the game was postponed due to rain. Anderson will start Game 1 of Thursday’s doubleheader with Max Fried slated to go in Game 2.
To make room on the active roster, Atlanta optioned right-hander Touki Toussaint, catcher Alex Jackson and outfielder Cristian Pache to the alternate training site at Gwinnett.
MLB Pipeline’s Jonathan Mayo broke down what we can expect to see from Ian Anderson in the majors.
MLB Trade Deadline
We are less than a week away from the MLB Trade Deadline and here is a look at several teams that could be sellers.
Rangers starter Lance Lynn figures to be one of the best starting pitchers potentially available at the deadline and The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports that Texas is fielding potential offers. It remains to be seen whether or not they will actually be willing to move him.
The New York Yankees are one team that is looking for rotation help and reportedly have shown interest in Mariners right-hander Taijuan Walker.
The Cleveland Indians will recall starting pitcher Mike Clevinger to start Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Twins. It will be Clevinger’s first appearance since he and teammate Zach Plesac were both optioned to the team’s alternate training site after they violated the team’s COVID-19 protocols by leaving the team hotel in Chicago.
