This Day in Braves History: July 31
1954 - Joe Adcock hits four homers and a double for 18 total bases in a 15-7 Braves win over the Dodgers. The 18 total bases is a major league record.
1955 - On the one year anniversary of his four homer game, Adcock suffers a broken bone in his arm after he was hit by a pitch by Giants pitcher Jim Hearn. Adcock will miss the remainder of the season with the injury.
1957 - The Braves defeat the Pirates 4-2. Bucs skipper Bobby Bragan is ejected in the bottom of the 5th for making obscene gestures. Before leaving, he returns to the field with an orange drink and offers it to the umpires. The Pirates would fire Bragan two days later.
1978 - Pete Rose singles off Phil Niekro to extend his hitting streak to 44 games.
2000 - Atlanta acquires outfielder B.J. Surhoff and pitcher Gabe Molina from the Orioles in exchange for outfielder Trenidad Hubbard, Fernando Lunar and Luis Rivera.
2007 - The Braves send Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Elvis Andrus, Neftali Feliz, Matt Harrison and Beau Jones to the Texas Rangers in exchange for first baseman Mark Teixeira and Ron Mahay.
2010 - Atlanta add veterans Kyle Farnsworth and Rick Ankeil from the Royals in exchange for Jesse Chavez, Gregor Blanco and Tim Collins.
2011 - The Braves pick up outfielder Michael Bourn from the Astros in exchange for Jordan Schafer, Juan Abreu, Paul Clemens and Brett Oberholtzer.
2018 - Atlanta acquires pitchers Kevin Gausman and Darren O’Day from the Orioles in exchange for Brett Cumberland, Jean Carlos Encarnacion, Bruce Zimmermann, Evan Phillips and international bonus slot money.
2019 - The Braves add Shane Greene from the Tigers and Mark Melancon from the Giants at the deadline. Joey Wentz and Travis Demeritte head to Detroit while Tristan Beck and Dan Winkler are sent to San Francisco.
