Brian Snitker confirmed Sunday afternoon that Cole Hamels will begin the season on the injured list. Snitker said that there simply wasn’t enough time for Hamels to get ready before the start of the season. Hamels’ didn’t throw a pitch during spring training due to a sore shoulder that he suffered during offseason workouts. He has thrown on the side at summer camp but has not progressed to the point of appearing in any of the intrasquad scrimmages. Snitker didn’t give any indication as to when the team expects Hamels to be ready.
Max Fried will follow Mike Soroka and start Saturday in New York
Snitker was unwilling to disclose his starting rotation but did acknowledge that Max Fried will follow Mike Soroka and start Saturday’s game two in New York. Mike Foltynewicz would seem the odds on favorite to get the start on Sunday with Sean Newcomb also a possibility. Snitker added that “anything was possible,” in regards to how they might configure the rotation and the bridge guys that are also on the staff.
Johan Camargo injury update
Johan Camargo left Saturday’s intrasquad scrimmage with what was thought to be a cramp or mild hamstring strain. Snitker didn’t have an update on Camargo Sunday but said that when he left Saturday night that the injury was thought to be mild and that the team would give him a day or two to recover. He did add that Camargo will be checked out by the trainers on Sunday so things could change if the injury turns out to be more serious than originally thought.
