This Day in Braves History: June 22
1916 - The Braves pull off a triple steal in the 11th inning in a game against the Giants. It is still the National League’s only extra-inning triple steal.
1962 - The Braves and the Giants set another record for the longest 9-inning night game in history playing four hours and two minutes in a, 11-9 Milwaukee win.
1990 - Atlanta fires manager Russ Nixon and replaces him with GM Bobby Cox.
1997 - Chipper Jones, Fred McGriff, Michael Tucker and Jeff Blauser all homer in a 9-run third inning to help defeat the Phillies 12-5. That was Atlanta’s single biggest inning since 1989.
2001 - The Braves trade reliever John Rocker along with minor league third baseman Troy Cameron to the Cleveland Indians in exchange for relievers Steve Karsay and Steve Reed.
