This Day in Braves History: June 20
1912 - This is the very definition of a wild game. The Giants entered the eighth inning leading the Boston Braves 14-2, then scored seven more runs in the ninth to extend the lead to 21-2. The Braves then rally for 10 runs in the bottom half of the inning losing 21-12. The 17 runs scored are the NL post-1900 record for runs scored by two teams in the ninth inning. The Giants set another record recording 11 stolen bases and 14 combined for both clubs. Thirteen different Giants scored at least one run tying the major league record.
1934 - New manager Pie Traynor leads the Pirates to a 6-5 win over the Braves. Traynor records four hits in the game, including three doubles, and scores the winning run in the ninth inning. Wally Berger homered twice for the Braves in the loss.
1951 - Billy Southworth gets his first win as Braves manager as Warren Spahn shuts out the Cubs, 9-0 and goes 3-for-4 at the plate with a homer.
1965 - The Braves, who are preparing to move to Atlanta, ban sportswriter Lou Chapman from their clubhouse for a series of “stories of negative nature.” The ban is rescinded a day later upon protest by Milwaukee BBWAA members.
1994 - Umpires Dana DeMuth, Tom Hallion, Paul Runge and Angel Hernandez are forced to work a game between the Braves and Mets wearing shorts and Braves T-shirts and caps after their regular equipment was lost in transit. Atlanta wins the game, 7-3.
2011 - Tim Hudson fires eight scoreless innings and homers off of Ricky Romero in the seventh inning to drive in both of the Braves’ runs in a, 2-0 win over the Blue Jays. Hudson retired 20 straight batters at one point while Craig Kimberly closed things out in the ninth to earn his 20th save of the season.
2015 - The Braves acquire RHPs Bronson Arroyo and Touki Toussaint from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for infielder Philip Gosselin.
