It has already been a busy day of mock drafts but we have another to add to the list. Keith Law released his final first-round mock Wednesday morning for The Athletic and projected NC State left-hander Nick Swiney to the Atlanta Braves with the 25th pick of the first round.
I’ve heard Atlanta on college players here, hitters like Foscue/Westburg and some arms, and then likely to go high school afterward, similar to their approach last year (when they went over slot for a bunch of high school prospects on day three).
Law has Duke right-hander Bryce Jarvis going at No. 18 to the Diamondbacks and HS righty Jared Kelley slipping out of the first round.
Baseball America ranks Swiney as the 85th best prospect in the 2020 MLB Draft. He pitched out of the bullpen in his first two seasons at NC State racking up both strikeouts and walks. He transitioned to a starter in 2020 and was dominant posting a 1.29 ERA with 42 strikeouts in 28 innings over four starts before the shut down. He has a solid three-pitch mix but enough question marks still to cause some concern.
