This Day in Braves History: May 28
1951 - Giants rookie Willie Mays recorded the first Major League hit, a 450-foot home run off of Braves left-hander Warren Spahn. Mays had been 0-for-12 since his debut. He would go on to hit 18 home runs against Spahn which was the most he would hit off of a single pitcher.
1971 - Third baseman Clete Boyer was released and abruptly retired after a heated dispute with Braves general manager Paul Richards. Boyer would finish his playing career in Japan and played his last game in 1975. Boyer spent five seasons with the Braves hitting .244/.303/.384 with 66 home runs.
2003 - The Braves became the second team in major league history to begin a game with three consecutive home runs against the Cincinnati Reds. Rafael Furcal, Mark DeRosa and Gary Sheffield turned the trick off of Jeff Austin in his last appearance in the big leagues.
2006 - The Braves win an 11-inning slugfest at Wrigley Field defeating the Cubs 13-12. Atlanta launches a club-record eight home runs in the win with Marcus Giles, Andruw Jones, Ryan Langerhans, Adam LaRoche (2), Braden Pena, and Edgar Renteria (2) all going deep.
