Brian Snitker discussed the depth of the Atlanta Braves’ bullpen on Friday and said that he is looking forward to having multiple closer options to deploy this season. The Braves have maintained that Mark Melancon will remain in the traditional closer’s role this season despite the addition of Will Smith this offseason. Snitker talked about how Smith and possibly Shane Greene could all draw some save opportunities.
Snitker also talked about several of Atlanta’s young pitchers who are in camp for the first time.

The Cleveland Indians will be without right-hander Mike Clevinger for 6-8 weeks after he underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Friday. Clevinger was dealing with a partial tear in his left meniscus that occurred during drill work on Wednesday.
Mariners outfielder Mitch Haniger had his second surgery in a month on Thursday as he continues to deal with issues to his lower back. Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto told reporters Friday that Haniger had a microdiscectomy which is a small repair of a vertebra. There is no timetable for his return.
Tigers starter Michael Fulmer is hopeful that he can throw from a mound by the end of March as he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery that caused him to miss the entire 2019 season.
Finally, Bartolo Colon isn’t finished yet as he has signed on with the Monclova Acereros of the Mexican Baseball League. Colon will turn 47 in May and hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2018.
