The Daily Chop: Freddie Freeman tops MLB Network list

The MLB Network is rolling out its Top 10 Right Now position lists and the Atlanta Braves have been well represented in the early going. Freddie Freeman topped the list of first baseman finishing ahead of the Dodgers’ Max Muncy and New York’s Pete Alonso. Ronald Acuña Jr. finished fourth among the right fielders trailing only Mookie Betts, Christian Yelich and Aaron Judge. Mike Trout and Juan Soto led the way among center and left fielders. The remainder of the list will roll out over the upcoming week.

The New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates have reportedly reengaged on trade discussions involving outfielder Starling Marte. The Mets were rumored as one of the teams pushing the hardest for Marte earlier in the offseason.

The St. Louis Cardinals and catcher Matt Wieters are in agreement on a one-year, $2 million deal according to the MLB Network’s Jon Heyman. Wieters’ deal also includes another $1 million in possible incentives. Wieters spent last season in St. Louis hitting .214/.268/.435 with 11 home runs.

The Kansas City Royals and veteran outfielder Alex Gordon are reportedly getting close to a new one-year agreement. Gordon hit .266 with 13 home runs in 2019 and also took home his seventh Gold Glove Award.
