The Braves have been one of the more active and creative teams in the league after the trade deadline. While most thought that the new rules that removed trades of players that cleared waivers would grind transactions to a screeching halt, the Braves have continued to make additions and tweaks to their roster including adding Billy Hamilton, Adeiny Hechavarria, and Francisco Cervelli thanks to some savvy monitoring of the waiver wire and the free agent market. They also shed a bit of money by letting the Reds claim Kevin Gausman off of waivers which helped them to offset some of those costs.

It looks like the Braves have made another move.

We couldn’t fault you if you didn’t know who Caleb Thielbar was given that he is a 32 year old reliever who hasn’t seen time in the majors since 2015 with the Twins. In his major league career, the lefty has made 109 appearances and posted a 2.74 ERA in 98.2 IP.

More recently, Thielbar has put together a nice season in Triple-A with a 3.30 ERA with 92 strikeouts in 76.1 innings against just 16 walks. The Braves are just giving up cash considerations, so there is no real risk. This gives the Braves some depth to their bullpen options as they look to lock up a playoff spot down the stretch.
