The Atlanta Braves have been one of the best offensive teams in baseball in 2019 but have hit the skids of late. Atlanta has scored a total of four runs over their last 27 innings which continued with a 3-1 loss in Tuesday’s series opener in Toronto. The Braves will look to get their bats back on track when they wrap up the brief two-game series Wednesday.
Mike Foltynewicz will be on the mound for Atlanta and is coming off arguably his most impressive outing of the season. Foltynewicz allowed two hits and one run over seven innings against Jacob deGrom and the Mets last Friday. In four starts since being called up from Gwinnett, Folty has posted a 3.91 ERA in 23 innings while striking out 26 and walking nine. The slider is still not where it was at last season and he has leaned more on his two-seamer as a result, but he has looked much better than he did at the start of the season when he was largely ineffective.
Toronto will counter with right-hander Jacob Waguespack who will be making his eighth start of the season for the Blue Jays. Waguespack held the Dodgers to just one hit over seven shutout innings last Thursday. He has performed much better as a starter where he has a 2.97 ERA in 39 1/3 innings. He has allowed eight earned runs in just 12 2/3 innings through three relief appearances.
First pitch is scheduled for around 7:07 p.m. ET from the Rogers Centre and the game can be seen on Fox Sports Southeast.
