Braves lose at the hands of yet another bullpen collapse
Another bullpen meltdown sent the Atlanta Braves to one of their most disappointing losses of the season. Atlanta entered the ninth with a 6-2 lead but neither Mark Melancon nor Shane Greene were able to hold it. Miami rallied for four runs in the ninth and then walked off in the 10th 7-6.
Melancon to take up mantle of Braves’ closer
Saturday’s loss comes on the heels of manager Brian Snitker saying that he was going to use Melancon as the team’s closer at least for the time being. No word yet on whether Saturday’s loss will alter that thinking.

Scherzer takes step forward with ‘pen session
Nationals’ ace Max Scherzer moved a step forward in his recovery from a back issue on Saturday when he completed a mound session pain free. Scherzer has started just two games since the beginning of July and while today’s mound session was a success, there still is no timetable for when he might return to the rotation.
Tebow’s season over early due to finger injury
Tim Tebow’s season is officially over after a laceration on his left hand required stitches. Tebow was hitting .163/.240/.255 in 77 games at Triple-A.
Cishek To Injured List With Hip Issue
The Cubs continue to deal with injuries in their bullpen. The team placed Steve Cishek on the injured list Saturday due to hip inflammation. The injury isn’t thought to be serious but still required him to be shut down for several days.
