Gwinnett Stripers, Durham Bulls - Postponed
Rain sucks….Dallas Keuchel’s debut will have to wait (should happen Monday in Rome)
Mississippi Braves, Jackson Generals - Suspended
Resumes on 6/9
Florida Fire Frogs 3, Tampa Tarpons 7
Riley Delgado, SS: 2-5, .709 OPS
Trey Harris, RF: 1-2, 2 BB, .920 OPS
Matt Hartman, SP: 4 IP, 6 H, 7 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 7.00 ERA
It was not a great day for the Braves’ minor league affiliates in general and this one was no different as the Fire Frogs got beat up by the score of 7-3. Matt Hartman got the start for Florida and was roughed up in the third and fourth innings while giving up seven earned runs. On the plus side, Brooks Wilson came in and threw three shutout innings of relief to lower his season ERA to 0.96. Wilson was a particularly interesting relief prospect for us coming out of the 2018 draft class and given his performance so far this year, we still plan on keeping a close eye on him.
There wasn’t much to get excitement about from the Florida offense, either. The only extra-base hit the Fire Frogs got was a double from Drew Lugbauer...the other seven hits the team got were all singles. A pair of those singles came off the bat of Riley Delgado who is riding a six game hitting streak. Trey Harris keeps hitting regardless of the level as he reached base three times. Trey has nine hits in his first 5 games at high-A which seems pretty good.
Rome Braves 1, Lexington Legends 5
- Hagen Owenby, 1B: 2-3, 2B, RBI, .905 OPS
- Greg Cullen, 2B: 1-4, 2B, .769 OPS
- Odalvi Javier, SP: 6.2 IP, 4 H, 3 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 8 K, 4.13 ERA
Another tough one as Rome let the game get away from them after a rain delay and ultimately lost 5-1. Odalvi Javier was really good on Saturday and frankly deserved better than what ended up happening as he pitched into the 7th while striking out eight batters. Unfortunately, the 7th inning was where the rain delay happened and when play resumed, Dilmer Mejia took the mound and things took a quick turn for the worst. Two hits and an error gave Lexington the lead in the seventh and a subsequent bases-clearing double proved to be the backbreaker and gave us the final score.
It was going to be tough to win this game regardless given the struggles of the offense. Hagen Owenby had the only multi-hit game of the afternoon and Rome only managed five hits in the game total. Greg Cullen, who has impressed at times this year with the bat, has himself a nice little hitting streak at five games thanks to a double in this one.
