Julio Teheran is back on the beam of late and will be back on the mound as well this afternoon as the Braves look to win the series against the fish.

Teheran is having a great season so far as he’s already amassed as much fWAR (0.8) through 13 games this season as he had over 31 games in 2018. His ERA sits at just 3.28 and the even more encouraging thing is that he’s struck out 69 batters in 71.1 innings. Teheran’s success can be attributed to him being able to reduce the amount of home runs he has allowed this season as his HR/9 rate is back down to what it was in 2016 when he was worth 3.1 fWAR.

On the other side of the field is another guy that has found success lately in Trevor Richards. However, where Julio has been excelling in the prevention of home runs, Richards has been allowing long balls at a high rate in 2019. His ERA is good at 3.53 but his peripherals suggest that there may be some regression coming soon.

Richards is just 26 and his minor league record and statistics are indicative of a guy that could be really good, so it’s big that the Braves young hitters get to see him as much as possible right now.

The Braves offense was very potent on Friday night scoring six runs against Jose Urena. Ronald (Robert) Acuna Jr. hit a fourth inning shot off of him and emphatically flipped his bat into orbit in one of the most beautiful moments of poetic justice ever.

We’ll see if the offense can be as good tonight against a better pitcher and also see if Austin Riley can break out of his homer-less streak of 13 at-bats.

It’s a rainy day in Georgia, but lucky for us the Marlins play indoors. Let’s baseball.
