The Atlanta Braves were rumored earlier today to be the frontrunner to sign free agent starter Dallas Keuchel. It appears that those talks have now reached the serious stage according to a report by The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal. Rosenthal does mention that it is unclear if the Braves and Keuchel already have a deal in place or if there are any other teams still in the chase.

While Atlanta’s bullpen struggled through the early part of the season, the Braves opted not to chase free agent closer Craig Kimbrel and the multi-year price tag that went with him. Keuchel on the other hand is said to be willing to accept a one-year deal and is willing to reenter the market against next offseason.

The Braves’ rotation has seen its ups and downs this season with the emergence of Mike Soroka and Max Fried. However, recent struggles by Fried, Kevin Gausman and Mike Foltynewicz have raised concerns.
