Dansby Swanson homered for the second straight game while Freddie Freeman put the Braves in front for good with an eighth inning double to help the Atlanta Braves to a 7-4 win over the Detroit Tigers. Atlanta takes the series and wraps up their brief homestand with a 2-3 record.
Austin Riley is just 17 games into his rookie season and tells the AJC’s Gabe Burns that he is feeling more comfortable in left field.
“(I’m feeling) A lot better (in left),” Riley said. “At first I didn’t get many balls, but as more balls were hit — there’s no ball that’s the same out there. It’s a learning curve. The balls in the light, me and (Ronald) Acuna have to communicate. I’ve just learned to let him take over and if he’s looking at me, I’m going to go get it. He’ll get everything else. But I’ve grown more and more comfortable.”

The Phillies have officially acquired veteran outfielder Jay Bruce from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for minor league infielder Jake Scheiner. Philadelphia will also receive approximately $18 million to cover the majority of Bruce’s remaining salary.
Righty reliever Fernando Rodney has a new home after agreeing to a minor league deal with the Washington Nationals. Rodney was released by Oakland on May 25 after posting a 9.42 ERA in 14 1/3 innings.
The injury woes continue for the Milwaukee Brewers who placed right-hander Jhoulys Chacin on the injured list due to a lower back strain. He joins lefty Gio Gonzalez who was placed on the injured list Saturday due to a dead arm.
