The Atlanta Braves are scorching hot at the moment, with 10 wins in their last 11 games. In fact, the team’s only blemish during that span occurred on a blown save in the ninth inning and, over the team’s last two games, Atlanta has outscored its opponent by a 27-4 margin. On Tuesday evening, the Braves will aim to keep it rolling against the New York Mets and Julio Teheran will take the ball for the home team.
Since the calendar flipped from April to May, Teheran has been lights-out in eight starts and 44.2 innings. The veteran right-hander owns a spotless 0.81 ERA over that time period and, even with 32 strikeouts to 22 walks, Teheran has been able to navigate things to keep the Braves in a favorable position.
In this particular outing, Teheran’s margin for error could be small, though, as the Mets will counter with Jacob deGrom. The Cy Young winner hasn’t been quite as dominant in 2019 as he was in 2018, but deGrom still sports a 3.38 ERA and a dangerous arsenal of quality offerings. With the way the Braves have been mashing offensively, there is certainly reason for optimism but, at the same time, it is never fun to square off with a true ace and deGrom fits the bill.
The good folks in Las Vegas install the Braves as (mild) underdogs in this match-up, with a great deal of respect being shown for deGrom. Still, Atlanta is the hottest team in baseball and, until further notice, optimism reigns supreme.
Stay tuned throughout the evening for all the latest.
