Gwinnett Stripers 0, Syracuse Mets 5
- Adam Duvall, LF: 0-3, .932 OPS
- Ben Rowen, SP: 3.2 IP, 4 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 3.02 ERA
We won’t linger here long as Gwinnett only managed two hits and Ben Rowen got roughed up after he had to me a start on short notice in the Stripers’ 5-0 loss. Huascar Ynoa had to make a trip to the big leagues which led to Gwinnett having to cobble together innings for the game on Saturday and the results were...not great.
On offense, there was not much at all as Gwinnett only managed two singles in the ballgame. Adam Duvall’s torrid reign of terror seems to have come to an end. He is still hitting home runs here and there, but he also hit .213 during the month of May although June has been slightly better there.
Mississippi Braves 4, Mobile BayBears 3 - Game One
- Drew Waters, LF: 2-4, HR, RBI, .916 OPS
- Cristian Pache, CF: 1-4, HR, RBI, .854 OPS
- Riley Unroe, 3B: 2-4, 2B, RBI, .671 OPS
- Dallas Keuchel, SP: 7 IP, 11 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
Mississippi Braves 3, Mobile BayBears 2 - Game Two
- Drew Waters, LF: 1-3, BB, .918 OPS
- Tyler Neslony, DH: 1-3, 2B, RBI, BB,
- Ian Anderson, SP: 7 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, 2.97 ERA
Drew Waters and Cristian Pache both continued to their assault on the Southern League as Mississippi swept their doubleheader with Mobile by the scores of 4-3 and 3-2. Dallas Keuchel, as expected, made another start in the minors and went seven innings. There were a lot of hits, but many of them were cheapies and would have been prevented by more seasoned defensive players. Ian Anderson went seven innings as well and struck out seven batters after a rocky start to the game.
It feels like Drew Waters and Cristian Pache do something awesome every time they play....and honestly that isn’t far from the truth. After hits in both halves of the doubleheader (including his second home run in as many days), Waters has now been on base in 24 straight games and is batting .472 in his last ten games. One can quibble with his walk rate, but he has already matched his May walk totals in the month of June as pitchers are becoming much less interested in giving him a lot of pitches to hit. Cristian Pache continues to be great as well as he has a nine game hitting streak and has home runs in three of his last eight games.
Rome Braves 3, Augusta GreenJackets 2
- Jeremy Fernandez, LF: 2-5, 3B, RBI, .782 OPS
- Darling Florentino, 3B: 2-4, 2 R, .554 OPS
- Alan Rangel, SP: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 6 K, 4.95 ERA
Rome had a back and forth game with some solid bullpen work on both sides, but emerged victorious over Augusta by the score of 3-2. Alan Rangel had a very solid start in going six innings, which is good as he had given up three or more earned runs in three straight starts. Ryan Shetter came on in relief and closed the game out strong with three perfect innings of relief.
Jeremy Fernandez stayed hot on offense as he has hit safely in four straight games. Darling Florentino had a multi-hit game for Rome, which is great news....but the Braves may be best served to send Florentino to rookie ball to work on something as a .554 OPS and striking out 52 times in 113 plate appearances isn’t going to work.
