Braves seek series victory against Padres on ‘getaway day’

After a frustrating run against the Rockies and Reds, the Atlanta Braves have performed well in recent days, winning of the last four games to return to .500 for the season. On Thursday afternoon, Brian Snitker’s team will have the opportunity to keep the mojo going in a “getaway day” special against the San Diego Padres.

The Braves will be aiming for a series victory behind Mike Foltynewicz, who is scheduled to make his second start of the season. In his first outing, the powerful right-hander wasn’t dominant, allowing four runs in six innings, but Foltynewicz was Atlanta’s ace a season ago and it will be interesting to see how he looks in his second trip to the mound.

In opposition, the Padres will deploy 27-year-old right-hander Matt Strahm. Though he isn’t a big name, Strahm has been effective this season, allowing two runs or fewer in four straight starts and posting a 3.04 ERA across 26.2 innings on the year. On paper, starting pitching should be an advantage for the Braves in this game, however, and all eyes will be on Foltynewicz to see if he can hold up his end of the bargain.

From a Las Vegas perspective, the Braves are seen as small favorites in this game, with a -125 line attached to the proceedings. That backs up what you might expect from a home team that most believe is the superior squad on the field (despite current win-loss records) and you can follow along with us throughout the day.

Stay tuned.
