The Braves announced that third baseman Josh Donaldson was scratched for tonight’s game with right calf tightness. This is significant given the 33-year-old’s battles with calf issues last season. The hope entering the season was that moving to a natural grass stadium versus the demanding surface utilities by the Blue Jays would lessen the role taken on Donaldson’s lower half. That may be the case but having issues one month into the season is certainly cause for concern regardless of the immediate severity.
Donaldson was scratched with a sore right calf. Snit is hoping the third baseman might just need a day of rest.
