The Atlanta Braves were back in action on Friday night as they faced off with the Detroit Tigers yet again as Spring Training begins to wrap up.
Julio Teheran was on the mound for Atlanta, and immediately was in trouble. Teheran has had a good spring for the most part, and that has mostly been due to his decreased walk rate up to this point.
The Tigers jumped on top quick as Niko Goodrum struck a double deep to center field scoring Jacoby Jones and advancing former Brave Gordon Beckham to third. Detroit wasn’t done there as they tacked on a second run early after Teheran uncorked a wild pitch which allowed Beckham to score from third.
Atlanta was quick to respond though as they knotted the score in the bottom half of the inning thanks to Ender Inciarte scoring on an error, which was followed by a Nick Markakis single which scored Josh Donaldson to get things even at two.
The offensive action then stalled for a couple of innings until the bottom of the sixth when Atlanta finally was able to get things going with an Ozzie Albies double that scored Ronald Acuña Jr. and Drew Lugbauer to put the Braves up 4-2.
Detroit tried to answer back in the top of the seventh, and were able to tack on a third run after Pete Kozma reached on an infield single while Issac Paredes scored to make things a little closer at 4-3, but Atlanta was able to survive.
The Braves got five strong innings from Julio Teheran despite his first inning trouble as he racked up five strikeouts and just one walk in the win. The Tigers got a decent game from Tyson Ross who walked two and struck out three hitters.
Atlanta will be back in action tomorrow at 1:05 PM to face the revamped Mets. Stay tuned.
