Cristian Pache named best defender among Pipeline Top 100 prospects

MLB Pipeline released their updated list of the top 100 prospects in baseball for 2019 over the weekend. Now they break down the best individual tools among those prospects. Atlanta outfielder Cristian Pache makes the cut as the best defender among the group.

While Robles is more polished, Pache may have better all-around raw tools. The consensus best defensive center fielder in the Minors, he also has well above-average arm strength and speed that would allow him to fit anywhere in the outfield. He’s still figuring things out at the plate and on the bases, but he has a chance to become a plus hitter with average power.

Royals To Extend Whit Merrifield

The Kansas City Royals are close to having an agreement on an extension with Whit Merrifield. The deal is reportedly for four years and may contain a mutual option for a fifth season. The deal is expected to be in the $24-30 million range depending on whether or not the fifth year is picked up.

Orioles open to potential reunion with Jones

The free agent landscape has been tough for a number of players including outfielder Adam Jones who hasn’t drawn a lot of interest on the open market. However, Jones’ former club, the Baltimore Orioles haven’t completely ruled out a reunion according to comments made by new GM Mike Elias at the team’s Fan Fest.
