Even with a four-game lead in the NL East, a series win against the Boston Red Sox would be about as strong of a vote of confidence as this Braves team could generate at this point in the season. However, the Braves can’t win the series if they don’t win tonight’s game first.
A bad start against the Red Sox back in May threw Sean Newcomb’s season off kilter, and he has struggled to regain that early-season form ever since. Tonight, he looks to get back on track as he faces Rick Porcello.
Though currently slumping, Freddie Freeman and Nick Markakis have hit Porcello well in their careers. It would be nice to see them snap out of their mutual funk and get back to their norms against Porcello and these mighty Sox.
