Afternoon baseball is a gift.

To make up for a July 21 rainout, the first pitch of the first Braves-Nationals game today will be thrown at 1:05 pm EST. Atlanta’s Max Fried, who exhausted his prospect eligibility last week, will face Washington’s Jefry Rodriguez, who still has his.

Ronald Acuña gets the afternoon off, but could still be seen in a pinch-hitting capacity. Considering the Braves have 22 games in the next 20 days, there’s probably nothing to it other than providing an extra bit of rest against an easier opponent than the Braves will see in the nightcap (perennial Cy Young candidate Max Scherzer), but we will keep you posted if any additional news comes to light.

In the instance he is needed to make an appearance and provided some additional rest to the Braves bullpen, Kolby Allard has been added as the 26th man for today.

Are you stuck in your office with no one to talk to about the first game of the Braves’ doubleheader? If so, we wholeheartedly endorse that you use us as your virtual water cooler. If you’ve got anything fun, witty, pithy, or interesting to say on the current state of the team, throw it in the comments.
