The Braves swept the Pirates just last week in Pittsburgh behind some great pitching from their starters and relief men. However, the Braves starters have had their troubles of late and Anibal Sanchez has been no exemption.
Sanchez was improved for his last start in Miami, but struggled against Colorado and the Marlins in his previous two starts before that. The lead in the NL East is just three games and while the Phillies have to face the Cubs it would be wise for Atlanta to give this series all they’ve got.
Sanchez overall this season is sporting a 3.05 ERA and 3.87 FIP with 100 strikeouts in 103 innings. He has been one of the more consistent pitchers for Atlanta this season and if ever there was a time to turn in a quality start, the time of year is now.
His opponent will be Jameson Taillon. Taillon is in his third season with the Pirates and is doing quite well with a 3.49 ERA on the season. The Pirates problem is simply that they haven’t been able to supply their pitchers with run support despite all the quality starts.
Lets hope that trend continues this evening at SunTrust Park.
