The Atlanta Braves will try to make it five-straight wins Friday night when they continue their series against the New York Mets. The Braves got their road trip off on a good note on Thursday with a 4-2 win. Mike Foltynewicz threw six strong innings while Ronald Acuna set the table at the top of the order.
Anibal Sanchez will get the start for Atlanta and will be looking to continue his surprising season. Sanchez allowed seven hits and five runs (four earned) in 6 1/3 innings in his last start against the Dodgers. That was the first time he had allowed more than three earned runs in a start since June 20.
Sanchez faced the Mets back on May 29 in what was his shortest outing of the season allowing five hits and four runs in just four innings.
The Braves will have their work cut out for them against Jacob deGrom who has allowed just six runs through four starts in July but doesn’t have a lot to show for it. DeGrom is the perfect example of why pitcher wins is a meaningless stat. He has arguably been the most dominant pitcher in the National League this season but has a paltry 5-6 record. He is on pace to become the first pitcher to finish with a sub 2.00 ERA and finish with less than 10 wins.
DeGrom has faced Atlanta four times already this season and has a 0.72 ERA in 25 innings. He has struck out 31 and walked just five batters over that span. His won-loss record in those four starts? 0-1.
