After Ronald Acuña Jr. continued to terrorize the Marlins and their ballpark as well, the Braves will be looking to continue their dominance over Miami in tonight’s game at Marlins Park.
On paper, the good times seem primed to continue. Mike Foltynewicz is the starter for the Braves tonight and it wasn’t that long ago that Miami had to deal with him on the mound. They didn’t have much of a concrete answer for anything that he was offering them back on August 13 — he went eight innings and struck out seven Marlins batters while walking three of them. Most importantly, he only gave up one run throughout that outing, which meant that the Braves cruised to victory while Folty locked down Miami’s offense.
Even though his past two starts have been lovely, those came within the friendly confines of SunTrust Park. Folty hasn’t had an especially good or long start since he went seven innings against the Red Sox back in May, Still, there’s plenty of reason to believe that the Marlins could be the tonic that cures Folty’s road woes. Miami’s offense is bottom-tier and if Folty can put it together like he did back on the 13th, then this could be yet another good night when it comes to pitching for Atlanta.
On the other side of things, the Marlins are sending Dan Straily out there tonight. That sound you hear is Marlins fans bracing themselves for what could be another rough night, because Straily has been getting rocked as of late. Ever since July 26, he’s taken a grand tour of the NL East and he’s taken his fair share of lumps from everybody in the division to the tune of a 6.39 ERA and a 6.23 FIP over his last five starts.
In fact, the Braves gave it to him the worst. They had their way with Straily in that one, as the Braves scored 8 runs (five of them earned) off of Straily back on July 31.
On paper, this really should be a victory for the Braves. Miami’s offense isn’t reliable and the starter that they’re sending to the mound has actually been a net negative for them when it comes to fWAR (-0.4 over 103.2 innings pitched!). It’s always difficult to string together a long winning streak against one particular team, but it would be really disappointing if Atlanta’s six-game winning streak against the Marlins came to an end tonight. Hopefully we’ll see the Braves take care of business and keep the good times rolling.
