Gwinnett Stripers, Durham Bulls - Games 1 & 2 POSTPONED

Mississippi Braves 1, Birmingham Barons 2 (Completed from 7/31)

Box Score

Brandon Downes, CF: 1-4, RBI

Carlos Martinez, C: 2-3, 2B, BB

Ricardo Sanchez: 3IN, 1H, 0ER, 1BB, 3K

This was a continuation from 7/31. An untimely error by Ray Patrick Didder and a wild pitch led to two straight sacrifice flies that decided the game. The Braves scored in the bottom of the 9th. However, with the bases juiced and 2 outs Daniel Lockhart hit a fly out to center field to end the game.

Sanchez wasn’t the only pitcher to throw some solid innings, Rex Brothers came on in relief to pitch the final 2.2 innings allowing one hit and striking out three.

Mississippi Braves 1, Birmingham Barons 0 - Game 2

Box Score

Cristian Pache, CF: 2-2

Tyler Neslony, RF: 1-2, 2B, K

Connor Johnstone, SP: 3.2IN, 4H, 0ER, 0BB, 4K

Josh Graham, RP: 2.1IN, 1H, 0ER, 1BB, 2K

The second game of the double header was Cristian Pache’s first at AA. The 19 year old was perfect in his debut collecting two singles and a walk. Pache batted 7th in this game, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him back leading off to maximize his ABs. Just like the first game, there wasn’t a lot of offense as the Braves could only muster four hits. Doesn’t help that the Braves were gifted a runner in the 5th inning when Ray Patrick Didder reached on an error, but then was immediately picked off. With an error in the first game and getting picked off in the 2nd, it was an all around bad day for Didder.

Fortunately for the Braves, one run was enough. Connor Johnstone and Josh Graham combined to shut out the Barons. Josh Graham was just called back up to AA too, so it was very nice to see him start off on the right foot.

Florida Fire Frogs 3, Charlotte Stone Crabs 6 (12 innings)

Box Score

Riley Delgado, SS: 2-5, RBI, BB, 2 K

Garrison Schwartz, RF: 2-4, 2B, RBI

Ian Anderson, SP: 7.2IN, 0H, 0ER, 1BB, 5K

This is a bummer. Ian Anderson and Justin Kelly combined to take a no hitter through the 9th inning. In extra innings Brandon S White couldn’t keep things together and the game blew wide open in the 12 inning. White has not been good since his promotion from Rome. You could blame White, but it’s not like the offense helped.

Speaking of offense, the bats were held silent through nine innings and really let the superb pitching down. Brendan McKay (a top 50 prospect) pitched a fantastic game, but only went four innings. The Fire Frogs just couldn’t do anything against him or the Stone Crabs bullpen. Other than Riley Delgado and Garrison Schwartz, only Jared James and Kurt Hoekstra even managed a hit before going to extra innings.

Despite this game ending in a loss, don’t be surprised if Anderson gets promoted to AA soon.

Rome Braves, Greensboro Grasshoppers - Games 1 & 2 POSTPONED

Danville Braves, Princeton Rays - POSTPONED

GCL Braves 1, GCL Yankees East 1 - SUSPENDED

Box Score

Trey Harris, RF: 1-1, R, HR, RBI, BB, SB

Braulio Vasquez, 2B: 1-2, CS

Lisandro Santos, SP: 3IP, 2H, 1R (0ER), 1BB, 1K

This game lasted all of three innings before it was suspended. Trey Harris was leading the way offensively with a home run, walk and stolen base. Lisandro Santos pitched three effective innings. After giving up a double, the runner advanced to 3rd with two outs, however, a passed ball allowed the runner to score. If the catcher handles the baseball, that runner wouldn’t have scored.
