Ender Inciarte drove in four runs while Kevin Gausman pitched eight innings of one run ball in his SunTrust Park debut to help the Atlanta Braves to a 10-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Atlanta pounded out 13 hits on the night. Johan Camargo accounted for four of those hits including a pair of doubles.
Prior to the game, the Braves added a couple of fresh arms to the bullpen in relievers Chad Bell and Chad Sobotka. Sobotka worked a scoreless ninth and recorded a strikeout while showing off a fastball in the upper 90s.
The stretch run is here and most projections systems have the Atlanta Braves’ playoff odds at a better than 50-50 chance.
Touki Toussaint was scratched from Friday’s scheduled start for Gwinnett and is now the odds on favorite to be promoted to start in Monday’s doubleheader against the Marlins.
The Philadelphia Phillies acquired first baseman Justin Bour from the Miami Marlins on Monday in exchange for minor league pitcher McKenzie Mills. Bour will give the Phillies another left handed power option to deploy either at first base or off the bench.
The Angels placed outfielder Mike Trout on the 10-day disabled list Friday with right wrist inflammation. The move was made retroactive to August 6 and he is expected to return on time when the stint is up.
The Dodgers will be without closer Kenley Jansen for what is expected to be about a month due to an irregular heartbeat. Jansen dealt with a similar issue seven years ago.
Prior to Friday’s series opener in Atlanta, the Brewers placed reliever Joakim Soria on the 10-day disabled list due to a strained right groin. Milwaukee acquired Soria via trade from the Chicago White Sox two weeks ago and has pitched well since his arrival.
The Giants will retire Barry Bonds’ number 25 in a ceremony before Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
