The Braves made their intentions clear during the madness that was the trade deadline that when Kolby Allard started yesterday, that it was only going to be a spot start. There are going to be a lot of moving pieces in the rotation going forward and Allard appears to be among those pieces.
However, with the addition of Kevin Gausman at the trade deadline and some weather issues in play, it was never going to be basic roster management stuff. The Braves went with a somewhat familiar face, for the moment, to take Allard’s roster spot.
The #Braves today recalled RHP Wes Parsons from Triple-A Gwinnett. LHP Kolby Allard was optioned postgame last night to @GoStripers.

Wes Parsons has already been called up once by the Braves, but has yet to see any game action with the big club. However, with his experience as a starter, he can be a long man in the bullpen in the case a starter falters or a rain delay causes the Braves to pull their starter early. Parsons has been excellent in 2018 with a 2.39 ERA in 19 appearances (17 starts) while striking out 83 batters in 91.2 innings.
As for Allard, he heads back to Gwinnett after a okay if uneven MLB debut to wait for his next opportunity. Allard has been quite good down in Triple-A as he has posted a 2.80 ERA in 18 starts for Gwinnett.
