Its that time of the year again as coverage of the 2018 MLB Draft starts to really crank up with teams being connected to specific players and the pecking order being more fully fleshed out with lots of spring baseball to analyze from the college and prep ranks.
We have already seen some early mock drafts from Fangraphs, Baseball America, and other outlets, but Keith Law released his first mock draft for the 2018 season this morning. Contrary to what has been seen in recent mocks that have the Braves targeting Kumar Rocker, Law has the Braves going for the power-hitting prep bat Nolan Gorman.

Law’s mock has several top bats including Joey Bart, Nick Madrigal, and Alec Bohm coming off the board before the Braves’ pick as well as Casey Mize (who seems pretty locked in at the #1 spot at this point) and Carter Stewart with his fantastic curveball. Instead of going with Rocker, Law notes that he has heard of a connection between Gorman and the Braves a few times already and believes that the Braves don’t have a player in the farm system like him (power hitting third baseman...he has long not been the biggest believer in Austin Riley).
It will be interesting to see how much we see Gorman and Rocker’s names (as well as others) attached to the Braves as the draft season unfolds. A lot can change to be sure, but it is exciting nonetheless.
