Braves lose 3-0, NL East lead down to ½ game
All the joy that was brought about with the Braves’ ninth-inning comeback victory over the Marlins on Sunday was quickly dashed by Nick Pivetta and the Phillies on Monday. The right-hander kept Atlanta hitters off-balance all game, and finished the contest having pitched seven shutout innings against the highest-scoring team in the National League. Encouraging for the Braves though, was the performance of Mike Foltynewicz, who completed six innings allowing just one run.
How the Atlanta Braves 2009 Draft could have gone
Our own Matt Powers performs his own version of the 2009 MLB Draft from the perspective of the Braves GM. Anibal Sanchez shelled in rehab start with Gwinnett
The Braves lost Anibal Sanchez to injury just over a month ago, and now it appears that the right-hander is nearing a return to the major leagues, as he began a rehab assignment on Monday. The start for Triple-A Gwinnett did not go well for Sanchez, as Gabriel Burns of AJC.com recalls:
It didn’t go well: He lasted 3 2/3 innings, allowing eight earned runs on eight hits. Sanchez walked three and struck out five.
Sanchez has been on the disabled list over a month after injuring his hamstring during pregame warm-ups April 18.
Braves manager Brian Snitker said the plan was for Sanchez to pitch four innings or 65 pitches. He threw 69 (44 strikes).
