The Atlanta Braves will try to get back into the win column on Saturday when they continue their three-game series against the Miami Marlins. Atlanta managed just four hits on Friday in a 2-0 loss in the series opener.
After a red hot start offensively to the season, the Braves are going through their first real slump of the season. Timely hitting has been the biggest culprit as they are just 7-for-47 with runners in scoring position over their last seven games.
They could get some help back on Saturday as Dansby Swanson is set to be activated from the disabled list. Swanson hit .289/.336/.430 through the first 28 games before landing on the DL due to wrist inflammation. He went 2-for-4 in a rehab appearance at Rome on Thursday and went through a full workout in Atlanta on Friday. Barring a setback he should be good to go on Saturday. Johan Camargo has seen the bulk of playing time at short with Swanson sidelined but is just 7-for-43 since Swanson went on the DL.
The Braves started Matt Wisler in Friday’s opener in order to give Sean Newcomb an extra day of rest. He has been rolling of late and will carry a 20 inning scoreless streak into Saturday’s start. Newcomb has allowed just five hits total over his last three starts.
The Marlins will counter with right hander Jose Urena who will be making his second straight start against Atlanta. Urena allowed three runs over six innings in a loss against the Braves in Miami last Sunday.
