Update - The Braves announced Thursday afternoon that Mike Soroka has been placed on the 10-day disabled list due to shoulder inflammation. Max Fried was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett and will start tonight’s game against the Cubs.
Wednesday night was a lot of fun for the Atlanta Braves, with Ronald Acuña and Ozzie Albies leading the way to a victory over the Chicago Cubs. On Thursday evening, the home team will be seeking back-to-back wins and, by proxy, a series win over a high-end National League opponent.
Mike Soroka takes the ball for Brian Snitker and company in the series finale, and the youngster is coming off a very interesting start in Miami. Famously, Soroka’s outing was blemished after a Jose Bautista error led to a blow-up inning and, even if the Braves came back to win by a lopsided margin, the right-hander was unable to complete five innings of work.
On the whole, Soroka has been impressive in three starts this season but this will be the most daunting lineup he has faced to this point. In opposition, the Cubs will send a quality left-hander to the mound in the form of Jon Lester and, while Soroka is certainly talented, it would be aggressive to suggest that Atlanta has the pitching advantage in this spot.
Still, the Cubs are only (very) narrow favorites from a Las Vegas standpoint and there is every reason to believe the Braves can keep their upward trajectory going with another strong performance. Stay tuned throughout the day for all the latest.
