Today’s game between the Braves and Phillies features the matchup of Brandon McCarthy along with the Vince Velasquez for Philadelphia.
A few players on the Braves active roster have faced Velasquez before and have had decent success against him. This includes:
Ender Inciarte who is 4-for-16 and has struck out 5 times.
Dansby Swanson who is 2-for-5.
Nick Markakis who is 4-for-11 with two walks and 5 strikeouts.
Freddie Freeman is 3-for-13 in his career against Velasquez.
First pitch at 7:35 ET tonight at @SunTrustPark! #ChopOn

Phillies batters have wracked up quite the number of at-bats against McCarthy over the last couple of years. Active players who have faced him include:
Maikel Franco who is 3-for-5.
Scott Kingery is 2-for-3 against McCarthy.
Pedro Florimon who is 2-for-2.
Carlos Santana has the most at-bats and is 4-for-15 with 3 walks and 3 strikeouts.

It would seem Nick Markakis is the man with the plan against Velasquez and for the Phillies it is certainly interesting that they would decide to sit Santana after all the success he’s had against McCarthy.
