(2-3) Gwinnett Stripers 2, (3-3) Durham Bulls 5
- Ronald Acuna Jr, RF: 0-4, 3K (.105 AVG)
- Rio Ruiz, 3B: 0-3, 1BB, 1K (.250 AVG)
- Dustin Peterson, RF: 0-4, 2K (.000 AVG)
- Aaron Blair, SP: 2.2IN, 1H, 3R, 0ER, 5BB, 3K
- Philip Pfeifer, RP: 2IN, 0H, 0ER, 0BB, 4K
Gwinnett’s 3rd inning was their undoing. Blair was cruising along for the most part, then he walked the first 2 batters. He then gets a line out and pop out, so runners still on 1st and 2nd, but now with 2 outs. Then things got wild...
-Fielding error by 2nd baseman, runner scores (should have been inning over)
-Wild pitch allowing the 2nd run of the inning to score
-Pitching change in the middle of an AB (*edit: Looks like Blair suffered an injury covering home plate)
-Peterson walks the batter, which is charged to Blair
-Wild pitch allowing the 3rd run of the inning to score
This was not a great showing for Aaron Blair who’s fighting to make his way back to the Atlanta Braves, however, if there was no error by the second basemen, he gets out of the inning. Still, Blair has to shake off the error and get the next guy out, but unfortunately threw a wild pitch and ended up getting injured in the process. The walks are a real concern as his control hasn’t improved enough over the years. Philip Pfeifer was the lone pitching bright spot going 2 innings, striking out 4. Jason Hursh was just called up and pitched a clean inning.
Outside solo home runs by Danny Santana and Carlos Franco, the Braves didn’t muster much offense.
(3-3) Mississippi Braves 0, (5-1) Bioloxi Shuckers 2
- Austin Riley, 3B: 1-4, 1K (.318 AVG
- Alex Jackson, C: 1-3, 1BB, (.357 AVG) - Defense, 1PB, 1SBA
- Tyler Neslony, RF: 2-4, 1K (.435 AVG)
- Travis Demeritte, LF: 0-3, 1K (.059 AVG)
- Kyle Wright, SP: 4IP, 2H, 1R, 0ER, 2BB, 6K
Kyle Wright spun a solid game (gamer score of 59), but it wasn’t enough as the offense was completely shut down.
The Braves had a scoring opportunity in the 2nd inning with Alex Jackson at second base, but Tyler Marlette and Travis Demeritte both struck out to end the inning. Alex Jackson was on 2nd base again in the 4th inning, and Tyler Marlette hit into a double play.
In the 7th inning, Tyler Neslony and Tyler Marlette made it on base. So with runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs they still couldn’t capitalize and score a run. That would end up being their last opportunity with runners in scoring position.
(2-5) Florida Fire Frogs 0, (4-3) Fort Myers Miracle 9
- Cristian Pache, CF: 2-4, 2B (.214 AVG)
- Jared James, LF: 0-3, 1K (.273 AVG)
- Ray Patrick Didder, SS: 0-3, 1K (.105 AVG)
- Lucas Herbert, C: 0-3, 1K (.125 AVG)
- Jeremy Walker, SP: 1.2IN, 7H, 6R, 6ER, 1BB, 1K
- Chad Sobotka, RP: 2.1IN, 0H, 0ER, 0BB, 4K
Another forgettable game tonight. Jeremy Walker couldn’t even make it out of the 2nd inning giving up 6 runs including a 3-run home run. Chase Whitely also gave up 3 runs in his 2 innings of work, however, Chad Sobotka and Bladimir Matos pitched well combining for 4.1IN, 1H, 0ER, 1BB, 5K.
Cristian Pache collected a couple of hits including a double, which brought his average up to .214 on the young season. While we still haven’t seen an actual home run from him, seeing him get an extra base hit is most welcome.
(3-4) Charleston RiverDogs 1, (4-3) Rome Braves 1
- Isranel Wilson, CF: 0-3 1K (.045 AVG)
- Derian Cruz, SS: 0-4 (.208 AVG)
- Jean Carlos Encarnacion, DH: 1-3, 1BB, 1K (.318 AVG)
- Jefrey Ramos, LF: 1-4, R (.292 AVG)
- Jasseel De La Cruz, SP: 5IP, 4H, 1R, 0ER, 2BB, 6K
This ended up being a great pitching battle through the first 5 innings of work on the Braves side. Jasseel De La Cruz pitched another solid game, ending with a gamer score of 61. Through 2 starts Cruz has 10IP, 14K, 3BB and a 0.70 WHIP. It’s going to be interesting if he can keep this up over the next few starts.
The offense was pretty quiet in this one, scoring a mercy run in the bottom of the 9th inning with a rally that started with Ramos and Encarnacion getting singles. A double play ball halted any chances of a big inning.
