Todd Frazier made sense for the Braves, but on Monday night he reportedly inked a two-year deal with the New York Mets worth $17 million. That’s a bargain for the Mets, and it sounds like playing close to his home in New Jersey was a big factor in negotiations.
As we know, the Braves are currently set to go into the season with some sort of a platoon featuring Johan Camargo and Rio Ruiz. Frazier made sense for Atlanta since most figured he’d get a two-year deal at a reasonable price (he did) while not blocking Austin Riley long-term.
Mike Moustakas remains a free agent, and the Mets signing Frazier certainly eliminates one of his top suitors. It would seem the Yankees, Royals, Cardinals and perhaps another team or two would have interest in Moose. He’s running out of time and options, though, and will likely see a contract far less than what some predicted at the start of the winter. It remains unclear just how interested the Braves are in him; similar to a handful of other top-tier free agents, there has been next to nothing reported on contract offers or interested teams.
Eduardo Nunez could also be a free agent fit at third.
