The Atlanta Braves have agreed to terms with free agent catcher Chris Stewart on a one-year major league contract. Stewart is expected to provide some additional organizational depth behind Tyler Flowers and Kurt Suzuki. To make room for Stewart on the 40-man roster, the team placed Grant Dayton on the 60-day disabled list.

Stewart spent last season with the Pirates appearing in 51 games while hitting .183/.241/.221. He has appeared in 449 games at the major league level and is a career .230 hitter with nine home runs.

Stewart’s deal is reportedly non-guaranteed and the Braves are hoping that he will agree to stay in the organization if he doesn’t make the team.
