Braves open to trade ‘conversation’ at Meetings
As expected, the Braves have made it clear that they are open for business at the Winter Meetings. With only a handful of holes to fill, the club appears willing to be aggressive in filling their needs, which include a starting pitcher, an outfielder, and bullpen help.
“I think we encourage conversation,” Anthopoulos said. “We say, ‘Don’t be afraid to ask about anybody, because we’re not going to get offended.’ I’d rather have the conversation. We encourage ideas, thoughts or free-flowing conversations. We’ll consider anything. I know we’re not afraid to ask at the same time about other players [from other teams].”
The Braves have expressed interest in trading for Nick Castellanos, per report
The Braves, in an effort to fill their remaining outfield vacancy, have reportedly reached out to the Tigers regarding Nick Castellanos. The 26-year-old has been highly productive with the bat over the past three seasons, but his glove is among the worst in baseball. Will Alex Anthopoulos make a play for Castellanos despite his defensive shortcomings?
Braves again linked to Dallas Keuchel
Jon Heyman reported that the Braves continue to show interest in Dallas Keuchel on Monday. That report was almost immediately refuted by Mark Bowman, who generally has better information, better sources, and more credibility. Stay tuned I guess.
Braves lose Rio Ruiz to waiver claim by Orioles
The Braves added a 40-man roster spot on Monday when the Orioles claimed infielder Rio Ruiz on waivers. With Josh Donaldson added to a mix of third basemen that already featured Johan Camargo at the major league level and Austin Riley as a top prospect, Ruiz was a logical odd man out. Best of luck to Rio with the Orioles.
