Braves GM Meetings recap: Anthopoulos has options
The Braves and GM Alex Anthopoulos wrapped up their stint at the General Manager meetings on Thursday. Anthopoulos told the AJC’s Gabe Burns that the team’s focus at the meetings were on trades and what players are available.
“There are some players we weren’t certain would be available in trade before we got to the meetings that we now have information about,” Anthopoulos said. “That does open things up for us.”
Nick Markakis wins 2018 NL Silver Slugger Award
The awards continue to roll in for outfielder Nick Markakis earned his first career Louisville Silver Slugger Award Thursday night. Markakis finished the season hitting .297/.366/.440 with 114 wRC+, an OPS+ of 117 and 14 home runs. He also captured his third career Gold Glove Award this past Sunday.
Bryan Price reportedly a candidate for Braves pitching coach job
The Braves are still looking for a new pitching coach and former Reds manager Bryan Price is reportedly among the candidates to replace Chuck Hernandez.
Braves’ revenue, profit increase in latest quarter
The Braves showed more revenue and profit increase in their latest earnings report to investors. Liberty Media disclosed Thursday that the team’s revenue increased by $15 million from $185 million to $200 million during the July to September quarter. They are still carrying a considerable amount of debt but their move to SunTrust Park and The Battery has been financially successful.
Will Adam Duvall get another chance in 2019?
Adam Duvall struggled after being traded to the Braves but he is still under team control and could be in the plans for next season.

Realmuto, Soto lift MLB stars in Japan opener
The MLB All-Stars defeated the Yomiuri Giants 9-6 on Thursday in an exhibition matchup in Tokyo to open up the All-Star series. Marlins’ catcher JT Realmuto homered while Atlanta’s Ronald Acuña Jr. finished with two hits including a double.

Sanchez’s shoulder surgery goes ‘as expected’
Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez underwent surgery on his left shoulder on Thursday and is expected to be out of commission for about three months. The Yankees expect him to be ready for the start of spring training in February.
Pirates sign Kang to one-year contract
The Pittsburgh Pirates and third baseman Jung Ho Kang agreed to a one-year deal on Thursday. The Pirates declined Kang’s club option last week but expressed interest in bringing him back on a more team-friendly deal. The deal is worth $3 million and includes another $2.5 million in performance bonuses.
Zunino to Rays, Mallex to M’s in 5-player deal
The Seattle Mariners and Tampa Bay Rays finalized a five-player trade on Thursday centered around catcher Mike Zunino and outfielder Mallex Smith. Zunino, outfielder Guillermo Hernandez and minor league pitcher Michael Plassmeyer are headed to Tampa in exchange for Smith and minor league outfielder Jake Fraley.
