Diamondbacks seriously considering dealing Paul Goldschmidt
ESPN.com’s Buster Olney reports that it is more than just talk, the Arizona Diamondbacks are seriously considering trading first baseman Paul Goldschmidt this offseason. Per the report, the Cardinals and the Astros are the teams that have shown the most interest so far.
The Mariners aren’t likely to trade Mitch Haniger or Edwin Díaz this offseason
The Seattle Mariners have already traded catcher Mike Zunino and pitcher James Paxton but would have to be “completely overwhelmed” to deal either Mitch Haniger or closer Edwin Diaz according to Olney. While the Mariners are apparently seriously considering retooling their roster, they have identified Haniger and Diaz as guys they can keep and build around.
7 stars who shouldn’t be traded this offseason
MLB.com’s Richard Justice lists seven players who are nearing free agency but shouldn’t be traded this offseason. Some of those included are pitchers Madison Bumgarner, Noah Syndergaard and first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.
Angels Hire Shawn Wooten As Assistant Hitting Coach
The Angels have promoted Shawn Wooten to assistant hitting coach. Wooten served as the team’s minor league assistant hitting coordinator last season. He will work under hitting coach Jeremy Reed at the big league level.
Angels’ Dino Ebel expected to be among Dodgers’ coaching hires
The Dodgers are expected to start announcing hires for their coaching staff this week. Chris Woodword, Turner Ward and Luis Ortiz all left LA’s staff this offseason for other opportunities. Former Angels’ third base coach Dino Ebel is expected to be among the replacements.
