Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich was named 2018 Most Valuable Player for the National League by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America Thursday night. Yelich captured 29 of 30 first place votes while securing the award. Chicago’s Javier Baez finished second while Colorado third baseman Nolan Arenado finished third.
Yelich broke out in his first season in Milwaukee hitting .326 with 36 home runs and was worth 7.6 fWAR per FanGraphs.
Freddie Freeman finished fourth in the voting garnering eight third place and eight fourth place votes. Ronald Acuna Jr. came in 12th and received one fifth place vote. Nick Markakis finished received two 10th place votes and finished 18th.
Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts took home the award for the American League receiving 28 of 30 first place votes. Mike Trout finished second with Jose Ramirez coming in third. Both Ramirez and Boston’s J.D. Martinez also received first-place votes.
