The biggest story from Saturday was a report by Ken Rosenthal which said that the Houston Astros had a deal in place to acquire outfielder Bryce Harper from the Nationals at the trade deadline. However, the move was rejected by Nationals’ ownership.
Nolan Arenado and Matt Chapman were named as the Rawlings Platinum Glove Award winners on Friday. The award was given out to the best defensive player in the American and National League. Arenado won the award for the second straight year.
The San Diego Padres were reportedly involved in multiple trade discussions at the GM meetings and most of the interest was focused on their glut of outfielders.
“Most conversations we’re getting hit on, people are talking to us about our outfield,” said Preller. “Other clubs have seen that we have players that are young and have the ability to play in the big leagues. ... That’s the area we’ll have to make some decisions and calls on.”
