The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo writes in his weekly column that more teams have joined the chase to acquire outfielder Christian Yelich from the Marlins and most notably the Washington Nationals. Per Cafardo, the Nats, Blue Jays, Giants, Phillies and Rangers are teams other than the Braves who are interested in Yelich.
The Blue Jays have acquired infielder Yangervis Solarte from the San Diego Padres in exchange for prospects Edward Olivares and Jared Carkuff.
The Padres also announced on Saturday that they have reached a two-year, $4 million deal with Japanese pitcher Kazuhisa Makita.
